Product Description
The Linksys Wireless-G PrintServer lets you connect a USB printer directly to your network, eliminating the need to dedicate a PC to print sharing chores. Using a PrintServer frees up your ""print share PC"" so you don't have to leave it on all the time. It also removes the printing bottleneck, and sets your PC free to do more useful work. Connect the PrintServer directly to your network by 10-100 Ethernet cable, or wirelessly over 54Mbps Wireless-G (802.11g). The wireless option lets you put your printer wherever you want to, without having to run cables. Whichever way the PrintServer is attached to your network, both your wireless and wired PCs will have access to it, and the printer it's connected to. And if you don't use wireless for general networking in your office, you can still use the Wireless-G connection in ad-hoc mode to print from visiting Wireless-G and Wireless-B PCs. The USB port is compatible with USB 1.1 printers, as well as printers that support the new high-speed USB 2.0 specification for even faster throughput. Your data is protected by up to 128-bit WEP encryption, or pre-shared-key WPA. A user-friendly Setup Wizard makes installation easy, the compact case fits anywhere, and the three megabyte print buffer size handles even large graphics-intensive print jobs.

"Works Great Just Needs Mac OSX Support" 2009-10-25By

Item has installed correctly and is working fine. I just wish there was support for Mac OSX. It worked for Windows 7 and Windows Vista with no issues.
"The only server for Me" 2009-10-19By
M. J. RichardsonThis is the only server that I can buy with confidence.
I've tried D-Link and a few other servers, the compatibility list on those servers were very short.
This server works with practically any printer.
"I'm glad I didn't pay for this" 2009-09-28By

One of these things wasn't being used at work, so I brought it home to use with my new (and large) laserjet printer. The printer was installed on my computer already, which is required for setup.
The first thing the installation wanted was to hard wire your computer to the router, and hard wire the print server to the router also, while it's connected to the printer. So, your computer, printer, and router all have to be in the same place for setup. This can be a problem if you have a desktop or very large printer. It seems to defeat the purpose of a wireless print server if you have to go through setup as a wired one. I tried to do setup wirelessly, but it didn't work. Fortunately my printer was still small enough to carry out to my router in the garage. Setup went smoothly until it tried to access it wirelessly (because, y'know, it's a wireless print server), and it couldn't. I tried several times, resetting the print server, changing network settings, etc. There couldn't have been any network setting conflicts because it was an unprotected, factory standard network. So, it fails at the one thing it needs to do.
However, if you do get it set up somehow, it works well from my experience with it at work. So, it gets a 4 for ease of use, but since it won't even set up at all at home, it gets a 1 overall.

This is the second one I got. Easy to install. Unfortunately we have now-a-days wireless printers so an additional peripheral in the network won't be necessary. But for those who want to hold their old printer for a little longer is a good choice, that allow to have multiple users using just one printer.
"Lock up problem when trying to access the internal web based set up screen" 2008-12-24By

A workaround I found and worked for me -after trying several web browsers unsuccessfully and even the cd setup wizard- to the lock up problem when trying to access the internal web based set up screens is no to try to access the Linksys WPS54G main setup page: http://192.168.xxx.xxx/ps_cfg.htm (where x is whatever numbers conform the ip address of your printer server).
Trying to find a way to reflash the firmware to solve the problem, I accessed the upgrade page directly: http://192.168.xxx.xxx/ps_stat.htm
Somehow that unlocked the sever because after that I could access all the other pages with no problem and setup the server according to my needs. It works the same wirelessly or by a cable connection. Refreshing or changing pages to quick sooner or later lock ups it again, but rebooting is all I need to recover full access to all the configuration pages and of course there's not need to switch or refresh pages every 1 or 2 seconds as I did as a test!
In my personal opinion, with no firmware upgrades available (the one provided in the linksys website is incorrect) and many well known flaws, I don't recommend this device at all but if this workaround helps others in my situation, I can tell you that this server is not useless or helpless and does its job. Don't dump it, fix it!
