    Product Description

The WRT54G offers 5x the speed of Wireless-B routers, at a very reasonable price. To increase your performance by 35%, try the WRT54GS Wireless-G Router with SpeedBooster. Or, for the fastest technology available on the market, Speed and Range eXpansion", SRX technology is for you! SRX is up to 8 times faster than standard Wireless-G, and has a range of 3x that of Wireless-G. Thats 40x faster than the current 802.11b standard.MIMO (multiple in, multiple out) technology, commonly referred to as Pre-N is a major component in the upcoming Wireless-N (802.11n) standard. The Linksys WRT54GX with SRX and MIMO uses 2 radios, and 3 antennas to improve range and speed.

"Very Dependable and Firmware Flashable" 2009-12-15

I had my first WRT54GS for nearly 6 years before a lightning surge took it out. I had also flashed the firmware to DDWRT and boosted its wireless output 3x to 70w and added high-gain anttennea. This is a great performer and I replaced my burnt router with this same make and model. I love it, and since I have mostly "G" equipment I didn't feel the need to move to "N" standards. This more than covers my house and out-buildings with a strong signal.

I've used this router over several years. It's a very good router and I've used it with Sony Vaio, Compaq, and HP computers running up to Windows XP systems. It works great when it does work. The software and set up is a bit complicated and seems you have to be on the Internet to get it to install correctly. I bought the router because we have a desktop, laptop, and xbox tied to a DSL line. I was able to create a LAN system and "talked" between the laptop and desktop with ease. I even configured my printer into this whole shibang. What perturbed me was when I upgraded to a new HP desktop running Vista. Vista didn't want to recognized any of the software from Linksys. It created a network with my laptop but I wanted the whole thing to be on a wired network. This router provides this option and I thought I had been running a wired system. But I was checking a friends laptop with wireless abilities and there I was, on the laptop. I created a system that was supposed to be wired and here I'm putting my business all out there for everyone to use. Needless to say, it's disconnected and tucked away where it won't bother me anymore. Long story short, it works ok but be sure to check it for security issues after you install it. If you choose the wired option, get another laptop to make sure you're wired (and I mean without alcohol). I know I turned off the wireless option but this router had other plans.
